The Arab League condemned Wednesday the escalation of the dangerous Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in the occupied territories, leading to a large number of deaths and injuries, plus the arrest of over 1,100 Palestinians since the beginning of January 2022. In a statement, the Arab League warned of the danger of this situation, holding the occupying government fully responsible for the repercussions of this war on the occupied Palestinian territories, including Jerusalem, in accordance with the obligations stipulated in the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1948. The time has come for the international community to stop giving a cover for this illegal occupation, to warn occupying authorities of the consequences of not complying with it, the Arab League said. Ending the Israeli occupation is the only way to bring peace, security and stability in the region, it underlined. It urged all countries, international bodies and organizations to take urgent along with responsible measures to pressure the occupying government to immediately stop this aggression against the Palestinian people and their properties. It also called for providing international protection for the Palestinian people in accordance with the relevant international legitimacy resolutions, including those that guarantee the rights of the Palestinian people, especially their right to freedom and the establishment of their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital. The Arab Parliament on Wednesday too sharply denounced the serious Israeli escalation against defenseless Palestinian people in Jenin, Jerusalem and other occupied Palestinian territories. Warning of provoking Muslim sentiments during the holy of month of Ramadan, the parliament, in a press statement, sounded the alarm about recent announcements by extremist settlers of breaking into Al-Aqsa Mosque. It underlined that the storming of the holy shrine provokes the feelings of not only Palestinian people but both Arab and Muslim worlds as well, noting that such steps would further escalate the conflict and abort all efforts exerted to create tranquility. The Arab Parliament, therefore, called on the international community and international organizations to live up to their due responsibilities by seeking hard to fend off a looming religious war that would certainly affect everyone. — KUNA
