Otr Elkalam contestants perform last round with mixture of Hijazi and Andalusian maqams

The contestants of Otr Elkalam (Scent of Speech) completed their last performances in the International Holy Qur’an recitation and Call to Prayer Competition with a mixture of Hijazi and Andalusian maqams and styles that captured the hearts of viewers. The wondrous display was before knowing the winners in the two categories of the Holy Qur’an recitation and call to prayer in the largest competition of its kind in the world. The penultimate episode of Otr Elkalam witnessed the rivalry between 8 contestants in reciting verses of the Holy Qur’an and delivering the call to prayer with the best voices. The tones were praised by the jury whose members confirmed the improvement of the performance and standards of the contestants competing in the fourth and final stage of the international competition. There were 4 contestants in the Holy Qur’an recitation category. The Iranian reciter Seyed Jassem Mousavi presented humble and sad recitations, while the Bahraini reciter Mohammed Mujahid presented quiet and distinctive recitations. The melodious voice of the British contestant Mohammed Ayoub Asif made the Chairman of the Qur’an Review Committee in Pakistan, member of the jury, Dr. Ahmed Thanvi, cry. Finally, the Moroccan Younis Mustafa Gharbi, presented a wonderful Warsh version of Qur’an recitation, with a mixture of Hijazi and Andalusian styles. In the Call to Prayer category, the Saudi contestant Abdul Rahman Bin Adel competed with his other Saudi counterpart Anas Al-Rahili, and two contestants from Turkey, Muhsin Kara and Albijan Celik. The two Saudi contestants presented a wonderful and melodious performance with their Madinah style of call to prayer, and the two Turkish contestants presented the call to prayer in a Turkish style. The final results of the competition are expected to be announced in the 19th episode, which will be broadcast tomorrow on the Saudi TV channel and Shahid platform at 5 p.m. The International Holy Qur’an recitation and Call to Prayer Competition is among the initiatives of the General Entertainment Authority. More than 40,000 applicants from 80 countries around the world participated in the initial qualifiers, and 36 contestants reached the final qualifiers, with 18 contestants in the recitation category, and 18 others in the call to prayer category.
