The Human Rights Commission (HRC) is following up the case of a woman who was assaulted by her husband in Jeddah. Mona Al-Otaibi, director of HRC branch in Makkah, said that the commission monitored, through its Beneficiary Services Center, the information circulated on the social media about a woman being assaulted by her husband, who hit on different parts of her body by using a sharp object. She said that the team is closely monitoring the woman’s condition. Mona noted that the HRC Makkah branch assigned a specialized team to follow up the case directly. The team immediately began verification procedures, visited the hospital, and assessed the health condition of the woman and the medical services being rendered to her. The team found that she had sustained severe injuries and that she had been subjected to multiple forms of violence. There has been coordination among the security authorities and agencies concerned with family protection to ensure the provision of the necessary protection for her and her children. The HRC will continue to follow up the case in coordination with all the relevant competent authorities, the sources at HRC pointed out.
