In the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, the number of Saudi universities has nearly doubled since last year with 22 universities making the list. The international rankings assess the commitment of universities to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) for the year 2022. Only three Saudi universities were included in the rankings in 2019. In 2020, five universities were in the rankings. In 2020, the number of universities experienced the greatest increase with 12 universities. King Abdulaziz University placed fourth globally in the overall rankings of the UN SDGs, attaining distinguished recognition by achieving second place globally in the quality of education. Prince Mohammed Bin Fahd and Princess Nourah Bint Abdul Rahman universities ranked between 101–200. Five Saudi universities were ranked between 201–300, and two more universities ranked in the top 400. In addition, 12 other Saudi universities made the list. All 22 Saudi universities contributed to the SDG 17 Partnership for Goals. Most notably of the 17 Saudi universities that had contributed to the SDG 4 Quality Education was King Abdulaziz University, which was ranked second globally. Imam Abdul Rahman Bin Faisal University ranked fifth in the world in the same category. This progress in rankings is the result of the leadership and support of the Ministry of Education in its effort to follow-up with Saudi universities. The Kingdom is striving to achieve an education system that contributes to the building of generations and the nation’s renaissance. The ministry’s goal is to make Saudi universities among the top in the world in the fields of education and learning. This ranking is important for evaluating universities in terms of the UN SDGs. It is based on carefully calibrated indicators to provide a comprehensive and balanced comparison across four broad areas, namely research, supervision, awareness, and education. Lastly, the rankings recognize indicators that are consistent with the nature of each of the 17 goals.
