The Saudi Karate team has bagged seven medals, including four gold, two silver, and one bronze, in the 3rd Gulf Games being held in Kuwait. Sultan Al-Zahrani claimed the gold in the karate combat competition under 75 kg after defeating Kuwait’s Omar Al-Janaei 4-2 and Oman’s Muhammad Al-Kindi 4-0. Faraj Al-Nashiri took top spot in the under 84 kg category after overcoming Bahrain’s Salem Al-Juma 6-1 while the Saudi Olympian Tarik Hamdi won gold in the above 85 kg by defeating Kuwait’s Mohammed Al Majadi 2-1. The fourth gold medal was picked up by Fahd Al Khathami in the under 67 kg category after defeating Kuwait’s Musa Hassan 8-4. All the karate team players managed to achieve advanced positions and medals during their participation in the competition. The team was supervised by the coaches — Mounir Afkir and Reda Youssef. In the karate competitions, silver medals were bagged by Yasser Al-Barqi in the under 55 kg after losing in the final to Kuwait’s Sultan Al-Mutairi 3-0, and Bader Al-Otaibi in the under 60 kg after losing to Kuwait’s Abdullah Shaaban 4-2. Misfer Al-Asmari claimed bronze in the kata competition by beating Oman’s Ali Al-Raisi.
