DUBAI: Dubai International Airport is expecting passenger numbers to exceed 58 million in 2022 — after handling 13.6 million travelers in the first three months of the year. It retained the tag of the world"s busiest airport by international traffic last year when it handled 29.1 million passengers — a number that is set to double this year. The airport forecasts 2.4 million passengers will use the facility during summer break and Eid Al-Adha holidays, with around 235,000 travelers are expected to pass through on July 2 alone, making it the busiest day. Over the Eid Al Adha weekend of July 8 and 9, the airport is expected to receive similar numbers of passengers. It is forecast that the total number for 2022 will be 58.7 million — despite the 45-day closure of the northern runway for rehabilitation during the first quarter of the year. There will be 214,000 passengers on average per day, the statement added.
