RIYADH: Saudi Arabia is competing in the International Mathematical Olympiad 2022 held in Norway from July 9 to 16, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported. The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is an annual competition in algebra, geometry, set theory, and combinatorics. Over 600 students from various nations around the globe will compete in the IMO.Six high school students represent Saudi Arabia in the IMO 2022: Marwan Al-Khayat, Moaz Al-Ghamdi, Hadi Al-Eithan, Ali Al-Ramadan, Muhammad Al-Dubaisi, and Mahdi Al-Baik. The team is sponsored by "Mawhiba," a non-profit organization that, in partnership with the Ministry of Education, seeks to identify and nurture talented and gifted students in scientific fields. Dr. Amal Al-Hazaa, Secretary-General of Mawhiba, stated that the team completed intensive training at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology last week and was well-prepared to compete in the IMO. Dr. Al Hazaa expressed confidence that the Saudi Mathematics Team will add to its more than 590 international awards over the course of 15 years with a new accomplishment. Saudi Arabia has 20 previous International Mathematical Olympiad participations, winning 8 silver medals, 34 bronze medals, and 16 certificates of appreciation. Dr. Al-Hazaa also affirmed that Mawhiba will continue its efforts to invest in Saudi talent in accordance with the most up-to-date scientific methods for identifying, cultivating, and investing in talented and inventive individuals. This commitment fits within the Kingdoms Vision 2030 development objectives.
