Saudi Arabia participates for first time in Special Olympics Unified Cup in Detroit

Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to the United States Princess Reema bint Bandar, who is also a member of the International Olympic Committee, participated in the opening ceremony of the Special Olympics Unified Cup-Detroit 2022 on Sunday. The Special Olympics held in Detroit City, in the US state of Michigan, where the Saudi team for the unified football participates for the first time along with 22 other teams, including three Arab teams representing the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and Morocco. While addressing the Saudi team, Princess Reema praised their good performance in the tournament in which the Saudi team won its first match against Singapore. She expressed her pride over this win and wished the Saudi team success to reach advanced stages in the tournament. “So happy to see our @saudiarabiasco athletes at the @SpecialOlympics @UnifiedCup 2022 in Detroit, Michigan. Thrilled to be able to share their excitement and achievements on this special occasion,” Princess Reema said on her official Twitter account. The Saudi team plays in the second group, which also includes the national teams of Paraguay, Romania, and Singapore. The Special Olympics Unified Cup, which started on July 31, will conclude on Aug. 6. Teams are comprised of footballers with and without intellectual disabilities playing together and this is what makes this event superbly unique.
