Saudi authorities arrest people with drugs

JEDDAH: The Road Safety Patrols have launched a crackdown against individuals involved in possession of illegal substances in Asir region. The patrols arrested a Pakistani resident in Uhud Rufaida in possession of 16,200 tablets that he was hiding in the car he was driving. In Rajal Almaa, the patrols arrested two Indian residents in possession of 108.9 kg of khat hidden in a vehicle being driven by one of them. In Abha, a citizen was arrested in possession of 55 kg of the narcotic qat in the Sarat Ubaida. In July, the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority successfully foiled an attempt to smuggle about 15 million Captagon drugs through Jeddah Islamic Port. According to the authority, as much as 14,976,000 of Captagon tablets were found hidden in a commercial consignment coming from abroad via the port. The smuggled quantity was found professionally hidden in a machine designed to manufacture concrete blocks. The culprits have been arrested and referred to the competent authority for legal actions to be taken against them. The authority called on members of the public to play their part in the battle to protect society and the national economy from smuggling by reporting any crimes or violations that they become aware of on 1910.
