Prominent cleric Muqtada Al-Sadr called on Iraq"s judiciary on Wednesday to dissolve the country"s parliament no later than next week, nearly a month after his supporters stormed Baghdad"s heavily fortified Green Zone. Accusing parliament of grave "constitutional violations," the influential cleric said lawmakers" failure to elect a new president and prime minister is justification for the move. He urged the judiciary to assign Iraq"s president the task of setting a timetable for early elections, warning of grave consequences if these demands are not met. Al-Sadr parliamentary bloc won most seats in the Iraqi national assembly during an October 2021 election. — Agencies
