Leader of the "Sadrist movement," Muqtada Al-Sadr, declared on Monday that he is "quitting" involvement in politics. Al-Sadr, in a tweet on his official account, said "I have decided to abstain from intervening in political affairs and now I declare my final retirement and closing all institutions except for the mausoleum of the religious scholar Mohammad Mohammad Sadeq Al-Sadr and my family"s museum and the heritage association." The declaration came amid a political crisis following the latest elections in which Al-Sadr won parliamentary majority but could not form a government as a result of obstacles placed by his rivals in the "coordination framework" bloc. Al-Sadr"s MPs resigned from the parliament after the failure to form a new government and were replaced by followers of the "coordination" group. — Agencies
