CAIRO: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received his Palestinian counterpart Mahmoud Abbas in Cairo. They discussed the latest Palestinian developments, various regional issues, and ways to strengthen and develop bilateral relations. El-Sisi’s spokesman said the two presidents agreed to continue intensive consultations and coordination on the Palestinian issue. El-Sisi affirmed that Egypt will continue to provide all possible support to achieve the aspirations of the Palestinian people, including the establishment of an independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. He stressed the importance of uniting all efforts to that end, and to maintain calm, especially in the Gaza Strip. Abbas expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s support for the Palestinian cause. The meeting was attended by Abbas Kamel, head of Egypt’s general intelligence; his Palestinian counterpart Majed Faraj; Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Al-Malki; Hussein Al-Sheikh, secretary-general of the executive committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization; and Palestinian Ambassador Diab Al-Louh.
