A number of people nationwide in Lebanon started storming banks, demanding their full control on their deposits, said a media source on Friday. The National News Agency (NNA) said that the storming of banks began early this morning with the action still ongoing in several parts of the country. The Association of Banks in Lebanon (ABL) announced a three-day closure starting September 19 and ending on the 21st to express condemnation over the recent d evelopments. The storming of the banks is seen as a reaction to years of economic regression, leading banks in Lebanon to set a ceiling on withdrawing hard currency such as the US Dollar. Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi had called for an urgent meeting for the Central Security Council to determine the security plan to handle the developments. — Agencies
