Minister of Education Dr. Hamad Bin Mohammed Al-Sheikh met with the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) Charles North, on the sidelines of the Transforming Education Summit, in New York on Sunday. The minister congratulated the GPE on the 20th anniversary of its founding, which will be observed during the summit. The meeting touched on the importance of education as a human right and a major driver of sustainable development, as well as the enhancement and advancement of human capabilities, and cited the Kingdom"s efforts to support educational projects around the world. The Kingdom is the largest supporter of regional financial institutions including the Islamic Development Bank, the OPEC Fund (OFID), the Arab Development Bank in Africa. They discussed the efforts of GPE in supporting educational systems around the world, especially in low-income countries and regions, and its role in achieving sustainable development goals in those countries, in addition to discussing the future relations between the Kingdom and GPE. — SPA
