Saudi Arabia called for fostering a culture of dialogue and respecting fully the principles of national sovereignty of states. Ambassador Abdulmohsen bin Khothaila, permanent representative of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations and international organizations in Geneva, underlined the need to promote a culture of dialogue, cooperation, tolerance, and respect for cultural diversity and equality among peoples, saying that this is in the light of international human rights frameworks and instruments that believe in the inherent dignity and equal rights of all mankind as a basis for freedom, justice, and peace in the world. Ambassador Abdulmohsen made the remarks while delivering his speech in the general debate of the 51st session of the UN Human Rights Council, currently being held in Geneva. He said that promoting a culture of tolerance, cooperation, dialogue, understanding, and respect for the diversity of noble values and other cultures and their acceptance in the spirit of brotherhood and mutual trust is one of the means of promoting international peace and security. “This is also one of the means to achieve the shared global goal of respect for universal human rights values while cultural diversity is a key to prosperity and development,” he said while stressing the need to adhere to the fundamental human rights principles of transparency, impartiality, and objectivity.
