$1,000,000 to honor winners of Prince Talal Prize in Climate Action during COP27

A delegation of AGFUND headed by its President Prince Abdulaziz Bin Talal is participating in the Conference of Parties (COP27) in Sharm El-Sheikh from Nov. 6-18. On the sidelines of COP27, AGFUND, in partnership with the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa — BADEA held a series of plenary sessions on financial inclusion, science and technology, smallholder farmers promotion, women empowerment, and the role of private sector and NGOs in climate change. They also held sessions dedicated for the winners of the Prince Talal International Prize for Human Development under the subject "Climate Action" and their potential expansion and replication to other countries. The participation of AGFUND and BADEA includes organizing a pavilion in the Blue Zone that extends over the twelve days of the conference, during which AGFUND and BADEA are displaying their activities and partnerships, spanning for nearly half a century On Wednesday Nov. 9, AGFUND will host a ceremony, at the Blue Zone, to honor the winners of the 2021 Prince Talal International Prize for Human Development, which worth $ 1 million in “Climate Action” the 13th Goal of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Among the attendees of the ceremony, is Prince Abdulaziz Bin Talal, president of AGFUND and chair of the Prize Committee, Queen Sofia of Spain, Signora Mercedes Menafra, former first lady of Uruguay, Dr. Y. Seyyid Abdulai, former director-general of the OPEC Fund for International Development, AGFUND’s Board of Directors, and representatives of UN, international organizations and experts in development. A number of dignitaries will deliver speeches in the opening of the ceremony including Simon Stiell, the executive secretary of UNFCCC, Dr. Yasmine Fouad, minister of environment – Egypt, Dr. Sidi Ould Tah, director general of BADEA. AGFUND calls on all partners to nominate pioneering projects for the 2022 Prince Talal International Prize for Human Development on the theme “Decent Work and Economic Growth”, the 8th Goal of the UN Sustainable Development Agenda.
