UN Human Rights Chief to visit Sudan, 13-16 November

GENEVA/KHARTOUM (11 November 2022) – UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk will conduct an official visit to Sudan from Sunday, 13 November. This is Türk’s first official country visit as UN Human Rights Chief. During his visit, the High Commissioner is scheduled to meet First Lieutenant-General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan Abdelrahman Al-Burhan, President of the Transitional Sovereign Council, as well as other high-level officials. He will also meet representatives of the National Human Rights Commission and civil society organisations, including women and youth groups, and representatives of UN and regional bodies. The High Commissioner will also travel to El Fashir, in northern Darfur, where he will meet regional officials, representatives of internally displaced people and other civil society organisations. Türk will hold a news conference in Khartoum at the end of his mission, on Wednesday, 16 November at 13h30 local time. Access to the news conference will be strictly limited to accredited media.
