RIYADH: Authorities in Saudi Arabia arrested 82 people after Border Guards intercepted attempts to smuggle large quantities of narcotics into the Kingdom. Border Guards spokesman Col. Misfer Al-Quraini said on Wednesday that land patrols seized 26.5 tons of the narcotic plant khat, 671 kg of hashish and 290,170 pills in a series of raids in the Najran, Jazan, Asir, Eastern Province, Madinah and Makkah regions. Al-Quraini said that the arrests included 18 Saudi citizens and 64 violators of the border security system, 34 of whom were of Ethiopian nationality and 30 Yemenis.
