RIYADH: A financial support scheme for Saudi families on Sunday received a SR3.6 billion ($957 million) December cash injection benefitting 11.2 million people. The national Citizen Account Program was created to protect Saudi households from the direct, indirect, and expected impacts of the economic reforms taking place in the Kingdom through monthly cash transfers into their accounts. A total of SR141 billion in payments has been dished out since the scheme was launched in December 2017. The program’s director general of communications, Abdullah Al-Hajri, said that 76 percent of beneficiaries received full benefits, with an average support of SR1,849 per household. The cost-of-living supplements for Saudi citizens are based on age, household monthly income, and the number of people living in a property. Earlier, the program launched new controls by reopening registration and providing additional support amounting to SR8 billion to beneficiaries until the end of 2022. Al-Hajri urged citizens wishing to register to apply online via ca.gov.sa. He noted that applications completed before the 16th of every month would be considered for the next month’s payment.
