The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (MHRSD) confirmed on Monday that the employers have the right to allow their employees to work remotely or not allow them to come to the workplace due to weather conditions, in order to preserve their safety and to avoid exposing them to danger. The MHRSD stated that the employer could compensate for the delayed hours or absence at other times in agreement with the worker. The ministry"s confirmation came coinciding with the alerts issued by the National Center of Meteorology (NCM) about the expected heavy rainy conditions in several regions of Saudi Arabia. This is also consistent with the Kingdom"s Labor Law in chapters 6 and 8 in terms of work requirements and its conditions. This is in addition to regulating the prevention of work risks, major industrial accidents, work injuries, as well as the health and social services. The MHRSD called on all the private sector establishments to take the utmost cautions to ensure the workers" safety of not exposing them to any risks, especially when the competent government entity issues an alert regarding expected heavy rainy conditions.
