New York, February 18, 2020, SPA -- Yemen's government said on Tuesday holding any future talks with the Houthi rebel militia will depend on what concrete progress is achieved on the Stockholm Agreement from December 2018. The permanent representative of Yemen to the United Nations, Abdullah Ali Fadhel al-Saadi, said in an address to the UN Security Council on Tuesday that the decision to hold future "is related to things getting clear; if the Stockholm consultations have succeed or not." Al-Saadi made clear the Houthi disregard and sidestepping of the Stockholm Agreement turned the post-Stockholm Agreement period to a new level of escalation in the conflict and suffering of the Yemenis. "It is regrettable that after more than one year, the Agreement did not bring about anything. But it marked the beginning of a new level of escalation and further suffering," Al-Saadi said. He said the militia continued to entrench its hold on Hodeidah port, commit more crimes, and open new warfronts to force the Yemeni people to surrender to their theocratic sectarian religious rule." The Yemeni government appreciated the important role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the leader of the coalition, in supervising and ensuring the implementation of the Riyadh agreement Al-Saadi added, "The Iranian weapons that were seized by the US Navy last Sunday, February 9, 2020 AD, were destined for the Houthi militias, not only a flagrant violation of the decisions of this esteemed council, but rather solid evidence of the close relationship between the mullahs' regime in Tehran and the Houthi militia, Their common goals are to continue the war, obstruct international efforts to reach peace, increase the suffering of the Yemeni people, and threaten the security, safety and stability of the region and the world. --SPA 02:45 LOCAL TIME 23:45 GMT 0046 www.spa.gov.sa/2036426
