United Nations, Rajab 15, 1434, May 25, 2013, SPA - Qatar, Turkey, and the United States Friday requested the president of the U.N. Human Rights Council to convene an urgent debate on Syria. “In light of the escalating grave human rights violations and the deteriorating situation in the Syrian Arab Republic, resulting in a high number of casualties every day,” the three countries said in a letter that requested the debate be held during the first week of the council’s next session, which begins Monday. The letter said that the debate should be held on “the deteriorating situation of human rights in the Syrian Arab Republic, and the recent killings in Al-Qusair.” Al-Qusair is a town near the Lebanese border that has been the scene of heavy fighting this week. --SPA 10:41 LOCAL TIME 07:41 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/1113754
