Doha, Sha'ban 13, 1434, Jun 22, 2013, SPA -- U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said today that the military support they offered to the Syrian opposition aimed to address the imbalance on the ground between the Syrian regime and its opposition. Kerry was speaking at the ministerial meeting of the Friends of Syria Group which started in Doha today. He said that arming the Syrian opposition was done to enhance the chances of a political solution, rather than look for a military one. "The United States and other countries here - in their various ways, each choosing its own approach - will increase the scope and scale of assistance to the political and military opposition," Kerry said. The U.S. Secretary of State added that arming the opposition could help stop Al Assad from relying on Iranian and Hezbollah fighters in combats in Syria. He stressed that the final document of Geneva 1 was the guideline for a political solution in Syria. --SPA 20:23 LOCAL TIME 17:23 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/1122745
