Bogota, Shawwal 23, 1434, Aug 30, 2013, SPA -- Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos on Friday ordered the militarization of Bogota to prevent acts of vandalism and looting during protests in support of a farmers strike, according to dpa. Protests left two dead and 196 injured in the capital late Thursday. Three other people died in clashes in the provinces of Antioquia, Cundinamarca and Tolima. Plundering in commercial areas led Bogota Mayor Gustavo Petro to decree a curfew in the districts of Ciudad Bolivar, Bosa, Suba and Engativa. Similar measures were taken by the authorities of the Bogota suburb of Soacha. According to the authorities, about 20,000 people took part in demonstrations in Bogota. Bank offices and shops were vandalized and set on fire, and at least 80 people were arrested. -- SPA 20:56 LOCAL TIME 17:56 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/1141446
