President Abbas Reiterates Commitment to Peace Process Based on International Legitimacy

Ramallah, Jumada I 26, 1434, Apr 7, 2013, SPA - President Mahmoud Abbas of the State of Palestine and the visiting Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird, on Saturday reviewed the latest updates on the Palestinian front, and the peace process developments and efforts to revive it. In this regard, President Abbas reiterated the Palestinian side's commitment to the peace process based on the international legitimacy's decisions and the two-state solution in order to establish an independent Palestinian state on the borders of 1967 with Al-Quds (Jerusalem) as its capital. He stressed the necessity to stop settlement and release prisoners who were detained before the Oslo Accords so as to end the deadlock in the peace process. President Abbas urged the international community to intervene to end the Israeli escalation against the Palestinian people, especially detainees who suffer from abusive measures by the occupation authorities.
