Washington, Muharram 4, 1433, Nov 29, 2011, SPA - The U.S. military will proceed with its efforts in Afghanistan despite the decision by Pakistan to cut off supplies to NATO-led forces following lethal airstrikes, the Pentagon said Monday. Pakistan quickly sealed its border with Afghanistan to NATO supplies after allied airstrikes killed 24 Pakistani soldiers near the border on Saturday. Almost half of all cargo bound for NATO-led forces runs through Pakistan. “The war effort continues,” chief Pentagon spokesman Georg Little told reporters. Asked how long U.S. and coalition forces could operate without supplies from routes running through Pakistan, he replied, “I don’t have a time line. … But the important point to focus on is the war effort will continue. Everyone realizes we have an enemy to engage in Afghanistan, and the U.S. military is prepared to carry on.” The top U.S. and NATO commander in Afghanistan, General John Allen, has ordered an investigation into the airstrikes, Little said. --SPA 11:01 LOCAL TIME 08:01 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/947735
