Atambayev Wins Kyrgyz Presidential Election

Moscow, Dhu-AlHijjah 4, 1432, Oct 31, 2011, SPA - Almasbek Atambayev, the former Prime Minister was the clear victor in Kyrgyzstan's presidential election, government officials said on Monday after a count of almost all ballots cast. The former prime minister won 62.8 per cent of the vote. His nearest rival was Adakhan Madumarov with 14.9 per cent support, according to results published by Kyrgyzstan's Central Election Commission (CEC) based on a count of 95.4 per cent of the vote. CEC chairman Tuigunaaly Abdraimov told reporters at a Bishkek that a formal announcement of Atambayev's victory could come on Monday afternoon.
