Washington, Rabi' Al-Awwal 05, 1432, Feb 08, 2011, SPA -- The defense chiefs of the United States and France will sign a space-cooperation agreement on Tuesday designed to help track debris in space that threatens vital satellites, officials told AFP on Monday. The agreement follows the unveiling of a new U.S. space-security policy last week that called for building a network of foreign partners to save costs and deter possible threats to sensitive satellites. U.S. and French officials confirmed the agreement would try to add to efforts to monitor the growing problem of space debris. Visiting French Defense Minister Alain Juppe is scheduled to hold talks with U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates on Tuesday at the Pentagon. The discussions are expected to address the political crisis in Egypt and the war in Afghanistan. --SPA 11:03 LOCAL TIME 08:03 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/862927
