Jordan Hosts International Conference On Mideast Peace-Building

Amman, Dhu-AlQa'dah 19, 1432, Oct 17, 2011, SPA - An International Conference entitled "Advancing Justice and Reconciliation for Long term Peace Building in the Middle East", opened here on Sunday, organized by the Regional Center on Conflict Prevention and the Jordan Institute of Diplomacy in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands. The two-day gathering provides a platform to academics and practitioners to discuss and share their experiences and perspectives on the subject matter and to be prepared to engage in relevant issues in order to enhance the understanding of different notions and processes of justice among a variety of actors. The meeting will try to investigate different cases in terms of reconciliation and mediation in the Middle East in order to promote the exchange of ideas regarding different cultures and notions of justice and draw lessons for peace building process, according to a report of the Jordanian news agency "Petra". Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh said in opening remarks that true and sustainable peace and stability are not attainable in the Middle East without arriving at a comprehensive solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict. "The whole world believes that the Palestinian-Israeli conflict will only be solved through the two-state solution that will lead to an independent Palestinian state on 1967 borders with East Al-Quds (Jerusalem) as its capital in accordance with international terms of reference and the Arab Peace Initiative," the minister said. --SPA Judeh highlighted the importance of the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative, which, he said, will lead to a comprehensive peace, recognition of all Arab and Islamic states of Israel and an end to Israel's occupation of Arab lands. 15:48 LOCAL TIME 12:48 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/934931
