Pakistan's PM Contacts Leaders of Political Parties on Karachi's Security Situation

Islamabad, Safar 11, 1432, Jan 15, 2011, SPA -- Pakistani Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani held a series of contacts with leaders of political parties and senior officials in the government of Sindh to put an end to the tension gripping the security of civilians in Karachi - the capital of Sindh province, which led to the killing and wounding of more than 50 people in two days. The Prime Minister on Friday talked to MQM Quaid (Leader) Altaf Hussain and ANP President, Asfandyar Wali Khan and asked them to appeal to their party workers and followers to show tolerance and patience in Karachi. The Prime Minister called upon the leaders of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Awami National Party (ANP) and Pakistan's Peoples Party (PPP) that all the three parties have to work together as coalition partners to establish peace and harmony in the port city. The Prime Minister condemned the killings in Karachi, disturbing the life of peaceful citizens and called upon the people to exhibit tolerance. The Prime Minister also talked to the Governor of Sindh Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad, Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Federal Interior Minister Rehman A. Malik to get together and chalk out a course of action to ensure law and order in Karachi. The Prime Minister directed the Federal Interior Minister to reach Karachi immediately and coordinate the strategy with the Sindh government as well as the MQM leadership.
