Madrid, June 02, 2010, SPA -- The Spanish European Union presidency today stressed the role of Pakistan as a key influence on the future of neighbouring Afghanistan, dpa reported. The EU gave its full backing to stability and democracy in Pakistan, Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero said, also emphasizing the importance of Pakistan's fight against terrorism and radicalism in southern Asia. Zapatero spoke at a joint press conference with his Pakistani counterpart Yousuf Raza Gilani, who was on an official visit to Spain. The two met ahead of an EU-Pakistani summit in Brussels on Thursday, diplomats said.
