Kabul, Rabi Al-Akhir 28, 1432, April 02, 2011, SPA -- At least 27 people were arrested over a mob attack on a United Nations office in northern Afghanistan, officials said Saturday. Seven foreign UN staff and five Afghans were killed on Friday after a protest sparked by the burning of the Holy Quran in the United States turned violent in the province of Balkh. Munir Ahmad Farhad, the provincial governor's spokesman, said. "We have detained as many as 27 suspects over Friday's incident." He said the suspects had confessed and would be turned over to the courts. The protest was held in response to a March 21 incident in which a US evangelical Christian preacher burned a copy of the Holy Quran, according to a report of DPA. --SPA 11:58 LOCAL TIME 08:58 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/879611
