Cairo, Feb 02, 2011, Safar 29, 1432, SPA -- Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak announced yesterday that he would not run in the upcoming presidential election. He also disclosed that he would work during the remaining months of his current mandate to take measures and actions achieved through the peaceful transition of power under the Constitution that grants him his powers. In a speech telecasted Tuesday afternoon by Egyptian Television, President Mubarak called on both houses of parliament to discuss the amendment of articles "76" and "77" of the Constitution, including amending the conditions of nomination for the Presidency and approving specified periods of the presidency. --SPA 11:20 LOCAL TIME 08:20 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/861366
