PARIS, Shawwal 20, 1431, Sept 29, SPA -- French President Nicolas Sarkozy late Tuesday called his Egyptian counterpart Hosni Mubarak to discuss the situation of the Middle East peace process in light of the visit here Sunday and Monday of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, the President's office indicated in a statement here. Sarkozy informed Mubarak on Tuesday of the contents of his discussions with Abbas and also elaborated on his proposal "to restart and support the peace process" by providing "a mechanism to accompany direct talks," Sarkozy’s office said in the statement. The French President also invited Mubarak to a meeting in Paris next month to discuss the preparations for the Union for the Mediterranean summit to be held in November in Barcelona.
