KARACHI, Pakistan, February 02, 2010, SPA -- Violence in Karachi, Pakistan's largest city and its financial capital, claimed the lives of at least seven more people, police said. The victims died in gunfire Monday in two separate incidents in the port city's Qasba Colony and neighboring Orangi Town sections, which police blamed on the violence raging since Friday, Dawn reported. At least 23 people have been killed since violence broke out, the United Press International (UPI) quoted Dawn newspaper as saying. Authorities said the violence was triggered by ethnic and political rivalry between two parties. Residents were forced to stay indoors for a third straight day, the report said. Police canceled all permits for carrying licensed weapons and asked residents to deposit their weapons at police stations. --SPA 11:06 LOCAL TIME 08:06 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/744161
