Warsaw, Feb 01, 2010, SPA -- Today's run-off in the Ukrainian presidential election is a chance for that country to strengthen its ties to the European Union, dpa quoted the head of a regional co-operation group as saying today. "These elections should show Ukraine...practical ways of getting closer to the EU, and how the union can help Ukraine," said Mikolaj Dowgielewicz, the Polish minister of European affairs for the Weimar Triangle. Dowgilewicz met Monday with his German and French counterparts, Werner Hoyer and Pierre Lellouche. Hoyer said close relations were needed between the EU and Ukraine. Lellouche said Ukraine was an important country for stability on the continent and could become a close partner for the EU. The Weimar Triangle is a group including Poland, Germany and France that was formed in 1991 to strengthen cooperation between the countries. --SPA 21:08 LOCAL TIME 18:08 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/744036
