KABUL, June 15, SPA -- A new American commander is in charge in Afghanistan, The Associated Press reported. Gen. Stanley McChrystal will oversee all U.S. and NATOtroops in the country to fight a Taliban insurgency. McChrystal took command from Gen. David McKiernan during alow-key ceremony Monday in Kabul. McChrystal, a former special forces commander, is expectedto bring a more unconventional approach to a war that hasturned increasingly violent almost eight years after the2001 U.S. invasion. The four-star general commands the largest internationalforce ever in Afghanistan.
