Bomb attacks kill 5 Afghan civilians

KABUL, June 23, SPA --Five Afghan civilians were killed by bomb attacks Tuesday _ two caught in a blast aimed at a militaryconvoy and three aid workers whose vehicle hit a roadsidebomb. Early Tuesday, a suicide car bomber attacked a convoy ofinternational troops in central Ghazni province, ramminginto them on a highway about 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) westof Ghazni city, said Ismail Jahangir, a spokesman for theprovincial governor. Jahangir said two civilians were killed in the blast butthat he had no information about any casualties among theinternational troops. Meanwhile, a roadside bomb killed three employees of anAfghan nonprofit group working with the U.N. to deliverassistance in northern Jowzjan province. Their vehicle hit the bomb when they were en route to aproject site, said Nader Farhad, a spokesman for the U.N. refugee agency, which was working with the group, calledDevelopment and Humanitarian Services for Afghanistan. «We are of course concerned and saddened and shocked by the incident, and we of course share sympathy with thefamilies,» Farhad was quoting as saying by The Associated Press.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/677517
