Washington, September 09, SPA -- The White House on Tuesday said that they have not yet received any requests for additional troops to be sent to Afghanistan. White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs’ comments followed U.S. President Barack Obama’s weekend review of the classified military review by commander of foreign forces in Afghanistan, General Stanley McChrystal. The report was a “part of a rigorous reassessment” of U.S. strategy in Afghanistan, Gibbs said. Since the review was conducted, and following the United States’ reassessment of the war in Afghanistan, Obama has been in constant communication with his staff and experts on the issue, he said. But, the White House has “not yet received a request for additional resources,” Gibbs said, adding that such a request may come though, in the coming days or weeks. He also said that public opinion on the issue factors into the decisions the president would ultimately take on troop size in Afghanistan. --SPA www.spa.gov.sa/699080
