Washington, Feb 25, SPA -- Already-embattled Illinois Senator Roland Burris refused to resign on Tuesday, despite calls from fellow Illinois Senator Richard Durbin. Durbin, the Senate’s second ranking Democrat, told Burris that he would likely have little luck next year winning the seat initially vacated by President Barack Obama. “I told him that under the circumstances, I would resign. He said, ‘I’m not going to resign,’” Durbin told reporters after an hour-long meeting with Burris. “I can’t force him,” he added. Burris was appointed by disgraced former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, who was impeached and driven from office after he was accused of trying to sell the Senate seat after Obama was elected into Presidential office. Burris has repeatedly changed his story about how he was appointed. He is facing calls for his resignation after he admitted to trying to raise money for Blagojevich. Burris has said he did nothing improper. He refused to comment about his meeting with Durbin, simply saying it was a “great discussion.” --SPA www.spa.gov.sa/638669
