New Tamil rebel leader arrested in Thailand, says Lankan military

Colombo, August 06, SPA -- Newly-appointed Tamil rebel leader Selvarasa Pathmanathan, also known as KP, has been arrested in Bangkok, a Sri Lankan military official said Thursday according to dpa. Udaya Nanayakkkara said that there was confirmation about thearrest, but no details were available. Pathmanathan was appointed a month ago after Tamil rebels of theLiberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) were crushed by the SriLankan military. Pathmanathan has been known to be main arms procurement agent forthe rebels and had been operating in Thailand and other countries,although his recent whereabouts had not been known.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/690690
