Clashes feared in Myanmar, 2,000 flee to Thailand

BANGKOK, Thailand, June 06, SPA -- More than 2,000 villagers from Myanmar's restive Karen state have fled across the border to Thailand to avoid possible fighting between rebel forcesand government troops, an aid group said Saturday. The human rights group Christian Solidarity Worldwide saidmore than 1,200 villagers in temporary camps along the Thaiborder have fled over fears the government was planning tolaunch attacks. The Karen Human Rights Group said another 700 villagersfled potential clashes between the rebel Karen NationalLiberation Army, the military arm of the Karen NationalUnion, and government troops and their supporters, theDemocratic Karen Buddhist Army, Associated Press reported.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/671740
