ANKARA, Turkey, March 29, SPA -- Turks were voting Sunday in localelections that Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan hopeswill strengthen his party's hand in pushing forconstitutional reforms. Some 48 million people are voting to elect mayors anddistrict administrators in 81 provinces. Voting was largelypeaceful although a deadly gun battle between the familiesof two rivals vying for a village administrator post insoutheast Turkey left one dead and 16 wounded, thestate-run Anatolia news agency reported.
