Prague, January 23, SPA --Czech President Vaclav Klaus named five newgovernment ministers today, a move that concluded Prime MinisterMirek Topolanek's long-planned cabinet overhaul at a time when thecountry chairs the European Union, DPA reported. Topolanek promised to reconstruct his three-party center-rightcabinet after his senior ruling Civic Democrats were trounced inregional and Senate elections in October. The ruling parties, which also include the Christian Democrats andthe Greens, alienated voters after introducing unpopular publicfinance measures, such as direct payments in healthcare. The new ministers assumed their posts at a time when economicslowdown is expected to fully hit central Europe and at the onset ofCzech Republic's six-month rotating EU presidency lasting throughJune 30. --SPA www.spa.gov.sa/628764
