Turkish, US, Iraqi officials discuss rebels

ANKARA, Turkey, July 28, SPA -- Turkish, U.S. and Iraqi officials are holding a security meeting to coordinate the struggleagainst Turkish Kurdish rebels based in neighboring Iraq. The meeting on Tuesday comes ahead of the 25th anniversaryof the start of the conflict that has killed tens ofthousands of people, according to a report of the Associated Press. The rebels have been fighting for autonomy in Turkey's southeast. The state-run Anatolia news agency says the sides are alsoscheduled to discuss Turkish calls to shut down the Makhmurrefugee camp in Iraq. The camp houses an estimated 9,000Turkish Kurds who fled to Iraq in the early 1990s duringfighting between Turkish troops and Kurdish rebels. Turkish authorities accuse Kurdish guerrillas ofindoctrinating children in the camp to become rebels.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/688194
