PATTAYA, Thailand, April 11, SPA -- Thailand has declared a state ofemergency in the town where a summit of Asian leaders wassupposed to be held after protesters stormed the venue. Themeeting has been canceled. The decree also covers the area surrounding Pattaya. Itgives the military the right to restore order, allowsauthorities to suspend civil liberties, bans publicgatherings of more than five people and bars the media fromreporting news that «causes panic.» Thai Prime Abhisit Vejjajiva declared the emergencySaturday after protesters demanding his ouster smashed theglass doors of the summit venue and swarmed the building.
