BANGKOK, April 13, SPA -- Thailand's armed forces chief has vowed torestore order in the capital as rioting by anti-governmentprotesters escalates. Gen. Songkitti Jaggabatara appeared on national televisionMonday as soldiers deployed in several parts Bangkok firedrepeated rounds of warning shots but failed to controlspiraling chaos. Songkitti said soldiers would use «every means to end thechaos.» But the army chief also said soldiers would use weaponsonly for self-defense and not «excessively.» Throughout the day, protesters burned public buses, setfires in the streets and played cat-and-mouse chases withsoldiers in combat gear, Associated Press reported.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/654088
