BISSAU, Guinea-Bissau, March 02, SPA -- A senior official saysrenegade soldiers have killed Guinea-Bissau President JoaoBernardo Vieira, hours after a bomb blast took the life ofhis rival, the armed forces chief of the WestAfrican nation, Associated Press reported. Luis Sanca, security adviser to Prime Minister CarlosGomes Jr., confirmed the president's death but gave nodetails. Gunfire was heard for several hours around Guinea-Bissau'spresidential palace early Monday, but the violence dieddown shortly after dawn.
