KABUL, Afghanistan, September 29, SPA -- Gunmen targeting an Afghanprovincial council chief killed four of his bodyguards,while a Taliban leader died in an airstrike in centralAfghanistan, officials said Monday. Gunmen in the southern city of Kandahar tried to killMohammad Hashim, the provincial council chief ofneighboring Zabul province, said Fauwzia, a council memberwho goes by one name. The attack late Sunday sparked aclash between Hashim's bodyguards and the militants inwhich four bodyguards were killed, she was quoted as saying by the Associated Press.
