NICOSIA, Cyprus, September 18, SPA -- Cyprus' president warned onThursday that complicated peace talks to reunify thewar-divided island could fail if the two sides don't findcommon ground on what a final deal should look like. Dimitris Christofias said that if negotiations are tosucceed, he and Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talatshould agree on the shape of a future federal governmentbefore they tackle the details of a peace deal. The two met Thursday at an abandoned airport inside theU.N.-controlled buffer zone for the third time since thetwo sides relaunched stalemated peace talks earlier thismonth. «I told (Talat) that he should appear more reasonable andto extend his hand, otherwise if we don't find a commonlanguage, a solution won't be found either at the end ofthis or any other year,» Christofias said before themeeting. Thursday's talks focused on governance and power-sharingissues, picking up where they left off a week ago. Thehighly contentious issue of property will be discussednext, the Associated Press reported.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/591189
